Amber Kuykendall is a Licensed Master Social Worker with nearly two decades of experience supporting individuals and families across diverse settings, including in the juvenile justice system, community mental health, medical/hospital settings, working with individuals with disabilities through Medicaid and Home and Community Based Services, and school-based mental health services. Amber has a particular passion for working with children and adolescents and is experienced in conducting mental health evaluations and suicide/self-harm risk assessments in school settings. Amber works with individuals ages 5 and up, addressing concerns such as autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, and interpersonal issues. Her clinical approach is trauma-informed, strength-based, and LGBTQIA+ affirming. She integrates a wide range of evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, social skills training, mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy. She also draws from Somatic Experiencing principles and is beginning to explore EMDR to further deepen her trauma-focused practice.
Amber earned both her bachelor's degree in psychology and her master's degree in social work from the University of Kansas. She is currently pursuing her LSCSW and continues to grow her clinical expertise through ongoing training and collaboration, particularly in the areas of trauma, EMDR, and Somatic Experiencing. Her academic work includes co-authoring a published study on interprofessional health care education in Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning. In her personal time, Amber enjoys spending time with her husband, kids, pets, and close friends. She finds grounding in reading, meditating, walking, traveling, listening to and seeing live music and comedy, staying politically engaged, and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs. Amber’s work is guided by a deep commitment to justice, inclusion, and helping people reconnect with their own strength and resilience.
