Tanya Hessong, LSCSW, LCSW

Tanya is a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker. She received her Master of Social Work degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas in 1997. She has worked at the Wyandot Center for Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. in Kansas City, Kansas for seven years providing assessments, crisis intervention, and outreach to all ages as well as managed comprehensive crisis services for children and adults. Tanya subsequently worked at Johnson County Mental Health Center for nine years, serving as the Emergency Services Director.  In this capacity, she managed several crisis teams, including Access, Mobile Crisis Response, After Hours, Crisis Recovery Center, and the Mental Health Co-Responders programs in collaboration with several Johnson County police departments. She served on the Kansas Law Enforcement Crisis Intervention Team Council for nine years and continues to provide training for Johnson County and Kansas CIT classes.  She has provided several trainings on varying mental health issues for the community, including suicide prevention and awareness, resiliency, and Mental Health First Aid. She also served on the Johnson County NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Board of Directors for two years.  Tanya is currently a certified Sources of Strength trainer in area schools.

Tanya has been providing therapy and assessment services to individuals of all ages since receiving her MSW. She currently enjoys providing outpatient therapy to adolescents, adults, and couples, addressing areas ranging from relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, anger management, life transition, and LGBTQ+ issues. Tanya utilizes Cognitive Behavioral, Mindfulness, Bio-psychosocial Perspective and Solution-Focused therapies, and she is certified in Imago Relationship Therapy.  She also has extensive experience in crisis assessments and coordinating with community partners when someone is experiencing a mental health emergency. 

Tanya joined Responsive Centers in 2010.  Her pronouns are she/her.  She is married with two sons and family dogs adopted through rescue.  Tanya’s dog, Ellen, is a trained therapy dog and often enjoys coming to work with her.
