Brainsway Deep TMS
Reconnect with Your Well-Being
Experience the power of Deep TMS to help lift the burdens of depression. Our innovative therapy offers hope and healing when it’s needed most.
Understanding Deep TMS Therapy
At Responsive Centers, we are proud to offer Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS), an advanced, non-invasive treatment option for adults struggling with major depressive disorder (MDD) and other mental health conditions.
For many patients who haven’t found relief through medication or therapy alone, Deep TMS provides new hope and measurable results, with over 70% of patients at Responsive Centers seeing more than a 50% reduction in symptoms.
Getting Started
What to Expect During Treatment
Your Deep TMS journey begins with a comprehensive consultation and evaluation. During this first visit, one of our psychiatric providers will review your medical and mental health history, discuss previous treatments, and determine whether Deep TMS is appropriate for you. If you move forward, we will perform a brief “motor threshold” assessment to personalize your treatment settings. This process identifies the precise level of stimulation needed for your brain physiology, ensuring both safety and effectiveness.
Once treatment begins, sessions are typically scheduled five days per week for four to six weeks, with some patients completing a short taper phase afterward depending on their response. Each session lasts about 20 minutes. You’ll sit comfortably in a treatment chair while the Deep TMS helmet is positioned securely on your head. During stimulation, you may feel a rhythmic tapping sensation on your scalp, but most patients tolerate this well. You’ll remain awake and alert throughout the session and can relax, listen to music, or simply rest.
There is no anesthesia and no recovery period required, which means you can drive yourself to and from appointments and return to work or normal daily activities immediately afterward. Over the course of treatment, improvements typically build gradually as the brain responds to repeated stimulation and begins forming healthier neural patterns.
How Deep TMS Differs from Medication
Medication
- Systemic (affects entire body)
- Daily dosing
- Possible systemic side effects
- Trial-and-error medication changes
Deep TMS
- Localized brain stimulation
- In-clinic sessions
- Minimal localized side effects
- Personalized stimulation calibration
01
Non-Invasive Treatment
Experience a safe alternative to traditional therapies. Deep TMS is non-invasive and has minimal side effects, allowing you to focus on healing without added stress.
02
Quick Recovery Time
Enjoy a shorter recovery period compared to other treatments. Many patients report feeling improvements in a matter of weeks, helping you return to your daily life sooner.

Advanced, FDA-Cleared Treatment for Depression and OCD
What Is Deep TMS?
Deep TMS is a form of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) that uses magnetic fields to stimulate specific brain regions involved in mood regulation.
Unlike medication, which circulates systemically through the body, Deep TMS works locally by targeting neural networks associated with depression and related conditions.
It does not require anesthesia.
It does not involve surgery.
There is no recovery time.
Patients return to normal activities immediately after treatment.
How Deep TMS Works
The Neuroscience
Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation works by using focused magnetic pulses to stimulate specific brain circuits involved in mood regulation. The treatment device (or helmet) contains a specialized H-coil, which is designed to reach deeper and broader areas of the brain compared to traditional TMS systems.
During treatment, brief magnetic pulses pass painlessly through the scalp and skull and into targeted brain tissue. Because magnetic fields move through bone and soft tissue without resistance, no surgery or anesthesia is required. Once these pulses reach the brain, they induce small electrical currents through a process known as electromagnetic induction. These currents influence neuronal firing patterns in areas that are often under-active in individuals with depression, particularly the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC).
Over a series of treatments, this repeated stimulation promotes neuroplasticity or the brain’s ability to reorganize and strengthen neural connections. By gradually improving communication within mood-related networks, Deep TMS helps rebalance dysfunctional circuits rather than simply masking symptoms. The result is a progressive and cumulative improvement in depressive symptoms over several weeks of treatment.
Common Questions
Here are some frequently asked questions about Deep TMS and our services.
What is Deep TMS and how does it work?
Deep TMS is a non-invasive procedure that uses Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to stimulate the brain. It targets specific areas involved in mood regulation, offering a safe alternative to traditional therapies. This therapy can be effective in managing symptoms of depression and anxiety when other treatments have not worked.
How long does a Deep TMS session last?
Each Deep TMS session typically lasts about 20 to 40 minutes. Many patients find they can easily fit this into their daily routine. We recommend a series of sessions to ensure the best results for your treatment plan.
Is Deep TMS safe?
Deep TMS is considered very safe with minimal side effects. Most patients experience mild discomfort during the procedure. Our trained staff will monitor you closely to ensure a comfortable treatment experience.
Who can benefit from Deep TMS?
People who suffer from depression, anxiety, or other mood disorders may benefit from Deep TMS. We tailor our approach to meet individual needs, ensuring you receive the right support during your treatment journey.
What should I expect during my first visit?
During your initial visit, you will meet with our team to discuss your medical history and treatment goals. We will thoroughly explain the Deep TMS process and address any concerns you may have. Our goal is to ensure you feel informed and comfortable before starting your treatment.
How is Deep TMS different from other therapies?
Deep TMS is a non-invasive treatment that does not require anesthesia or lengthy recovery times, unlike some other therapies. It directly targets brain areas related to mood, potentially leading to quicker improvements in symptoms compared to more traditional methods.
